The Lancaster Park Golf and Curling Club is committed
to developing environmental strategies to protect,
conserve and enhance our ecosystems. Through
sustainable development and environmental management
the operations and activities at the club will result
in minimal environmental impact.
To achieve the goals established by the Department of
National Defence Sustainable Development Strategy, an
Environmental Management System has been established
that will be maintained and continually improved over
time. One part of this Environmental Management
System is our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Plan.
By taking this proactive approach we are able to
exhibit due diligence in the area of environmental
management and promote sustainable development.
The Lancaster Park Golf and Curling Club will meet or
exceed all federal laws, respect the Code of
Environmental Stewardship, and encourage pollution
prevention.
What is IPM?
IPM is a healthy approach to keeping pest populations
(weeds, insects, disease, etc.) under control. IPM
is how the Lancaster Park Golf and Curling Club
coordinates all necessary pest management techniques
using environmentally sound methods. The goal of our
IPM plan is to manage our ecosystems to prevent
organisms from becoming pests. The basic components
of our IPM program are:
1) Identify potential pests.
2) Monitor our environments.
3) Determine the best way to manage our environments
to prevent organisms from becoming pests.
4) Using injury thresholds reduce pest populations to
acceptable levels by combining cultural,
mechanical, biological, and when necessary
chemical controls.
5) Evaluate the effects and efficiencies of our
strategies.
